- 13/11/2014 - Glitter & Sparkle....
Well it's been a little while and the year is fast drawing to it's end. And what a year it's been! The last couple of weeks have been really busy with preparations for Christmas. Yes, I know it's still early November - but the John Lewis advert is now being aired so I feel it's quite acceptable!
Last weekend (7th - 9th November) the local Arts & Eats Trail had their Christmas Fair in Lochcarron, and it seemed to be a great success. It was a lot earlier this year, but I think that was perhaps good for catching people who are just beginning to consider Christmas presents. Patterns of Light had a stall there, and it was fairly busy! It was a lot of hard work getting everything organised and set up while having the shop open at the same time, but it worked well, and I held off exhaustion until Monday which was good!
And then this weekend I am serving mulled wine, mince pies, stollen and lebkuchen for anybody who wants to pop in for a few festive treats. The shop will open at 10am, and the food will be served from 11am until 4pm both Saturday and Sunday. If you are nearby please pop in - all are welcome. But once the mince pies are gone I'm afraid they're gone!
The glitter and sparkle is slowly creeping in over the next day or two ready for the weekend. Lovely goodies from Button Heart Crafts, Carrie Paxton Glass, Calm Arts and St.Eval. Plus some glittery baubles and all our usual goodies.
I hope to see a few of you over the weekend. Hope this finds you all happy and well :)
- 29/9/2014 - Autumn is here
Been a while since I last blogged - sorry. The seaon has been quite busy and there has been plenty happening here at Patterns of Light. Lots of faces old and new.
I am sitting here with the Autumn sun shining in the back window of the shop. It a truly beautiful time of year here - all the colours are beginning to change from vivacious greens to glorious golds and reds. Plenty of inspiration for an artist! I have found myself painting trees and leaves of late. I completed a large painting of a tree last week and just in time to fill a couple of gaps on the wall. Very pleased to say that I sold two large original paintings this month.
Along with thoughts of trees and the turning of the season I am also looking ahead to Christmas. The first boxes have arrived with new Christmas stock ready to fill the shelves of the shop over the coming couple of months. And I am hoping to have at least one weekend in November when I can invite the lovely locals who have supported us over the years, to come and share some mulled wine and take a look around at the shop with it's festive goodies. Christmas is one of my favourite times of year. It may be dark outside, but the shop will be filled with love and light!
I will leave you with a picture of my rather colourful tree. I was originally planning a Rowan, but it became something else once I got the paints out. Hope you like. And hope you are all happy and well xx
- 23/7/2014 - Hot, hot, hot!
Well summer is well and truly here at the moment. Been really hot the last few days, and today I have all the doors and windows open trying to keep Patterns of Light cool! Roaring trade on ice creams as well....
The shop has been quite steady so far through July. Lots of families around now that the schools are on holiday and also a few familiar faces. This is my first season in PoL, but it's lovely to see some of the folk I knew from my old job popping in here too.
We have a few new goodies in the shop. Some lovely felt owls, pincushions and needlecases from Ali MacRae at Calm Arts in Ullapool. We also now have the stock of Isle of Skye Candles which have been very popular so far. And some new work from artist Beverly Madley. Beverly is currently based down South, but she and her husband are building a new home over in Sallachy, so hope to spend more time up here in the future.
Anyway, I hope wherever you are the sun is shining on you. And I look forward to meeting some new faces over the next couple of months!
- 21/6/2014 - Midsummer already!
This is a long overdue blog! And it's already midsummer - the time is flying by.
The shop has been a little quieter the last couple of weeks, but June can always be a little funny. More new stock has been coming in. Pottery from Emma up in Lochbroom, an extra order from Carrie Paxton in Edinburgh, as her beautiful glass proved very popular through May and the stock became a little depleted. Patterns of Light now has a couple of original paintings from Beverly Madley who is based in Minehead at the moment, but she and her husband have a piece of land not far from here and plan to split their time. She also has a lovely selection of prints and cards too. Mary Jean Ltd. based in Fochabers make lovely natural products such as bath bombs, body lotions, and the item that made me choose them - Highland Midge Lotion! And hopefully in the next week or so I will also have an order arriving from the Isle of Skye Candle Company. James there makes beautiful scented candles and won "Best New Scottish Company" at the Scottish variety awards in 2012.
So as you can see, there is still plenty happening. As well as the stock coming in there are also the items being produced here in the little studio at the back of the shop....well work desk! :) I have had some of my original paintings framed and they are now on display in the shop. Such a lovely feeling and something I don't think I had ever realised I could do. Sally has been busy making her baby dreamcatchers. And today I am busy making jewellery, as there are only a couple of pieces left.
So do pop in if you are passing, even if it is just to say hello! I hope the summer is treating you kindly wherever you are :)
