Cards Living in Wester Ross, the lanscape is continually challenging and wild. Next it is breathtakingly calm and beautiful. I am moved to work with these changing patterns of light and shade, with texture and treasure collected from the tide line. Some of the titles reflect this directly. For instance 'Come walk with me and explore the treasure on the tide-line' ,'A sparkling wave broke all along the shore' Rise before dawn, pray the sun up' 'Beauty of the bare rock' and so on.... This year we have experienced hurricane force winds, dark days and night for weeks on end and I could write a book about the different types of rain and mist. Then, the sun comes out and the views over to the Hebrides are awesome and we begin to heal instantly. Using the intense colours of watercolour ink, semi-precious stones, natural objects, threads and yarns, I try to capture the landscape and special energies of this place which I love. the darkness and the light come together to create something which asks for words and the words are suddenly there on the page, direct from source. I work in one of the last wild places on earth and in attempting to capture something of this, universal themes come through. So, the images and designs are about this place but not limited to it. |
If you order cards from me, they often come with a handmade envelope on which a part of the card design detail may repeat. Each card has a small detail on the back of the card also and each card is unique, although some may be similar within a particular theme or title. It works like this: You may like a theme, like the sea or birds fflying, or mountains etc and I can respond to that idea and create as many or as few cards as you like within that theme.
